Mexico, Maquiladoras, Tariffs, Trade Negotiations, and Changes in Government –
What are the Immediate Effects on Commerce and on Our Closest Trading Partners

Global trade has always had its intricacies, and with international trade and the global economy in flux it is vital to understand the complexities of our trading partners. Mexico is not only in close proximity to the United States, but in December 2017, Mexico was our #3 trading partner closely behind Canada and China.  Recognizing the inherent advantages of proximity, it is therefore ironic that one of our largest trading partners seems to have a number issues in flux.

Because of these complex issues, understanding our trade position with Mexico is important to us for four primary reasons: 1) In terms of how we currently do business with an important trade partner; 2) In terms of the possibility for changes in our relationship with Mexico, recognizing that thenewly elected President of Mexico will take office on December 1; 3) In terms of how our current negotiating posture is likely to affect our ability to be the center of a North American trade zone; and 4) In terms of the opportunity to better understand how the world currently views us, and what our future global trade opportunities will look like.

Please join us on Tuesday, September 18th when we will be joined by members of Organization for Women in Trade (OWIT) for a presentation covering the challenges of doing business in Mexico, and a review of the current issues that are dominating American-Mexican trading relations, as well as issue that also effect our current trade with other countries.

Organization for Women in Trade (OWIT) is a non-profit professional organization designed to promote women doing business in international trade by providing networking and education opportunities.
